Robert Crumb’s Art & Beauty Magazines 1, 2 & 3 are published here as one hardback book. The three magazines in this book are a remarkable body of work from this unique artist. The quality of the drawings are beautiful, plus the magazines are full of Crumb’s selection of quotations by artists from Andy Warhol, Vincent van Gogh, Picasso, Leonardo Da Vinci, Renoir and more, plus thoughts by thinkers and historians including Robert Henri, John Berger and Kenneth Clark.
The way this material is presented shows Robert Crumb’s views on art, his view of the beauty of women and his questioning of ‘what is art?’ The magazines are full of text in Crumb’s own hand plus his beautiful pen and ink drawings.
The first magazine was published by Kitchen Sink Press in 1996. The second magazine was published in 2003 and the third in 2016.
This hardback book, combining all three magazines, was published by David Zwirner Books, London, in 2016 on the occasion of the exhibition Robert Crumb’s Art & Beauty. This copy is in almost new condition with very slight bumping on the corners. The inside pages are clean and bright.
